Treatment Experience

Appointments

You are welcome to make an appointment online, by using the BookNow link or by phone or email. If you consult my online schedule and don't find a time that works well for you, please give me a call and often we can find a good time for you in the schedule by phone.

Previous to your First Visit

To allow for more time for our conversation and treatment, please download and print the Health History Forms. Take your time to thoroughly fill them out and bring them with you to your first visit. If you are unable to print the forms, let me know and I can mail them to you in advance.

Allow about 90 minutes for our initial consultation and treatment. Subsequent visits are approximately an hour. During this first visit we will speak at length about your health concerns and address any questions you may have about acupuncture and the healing process. We will discuss your health and personal histories in detail, followed by a physical examination and a needle treatment. The primary objective of the first appointment is to assess the underlying conditions that have led to your current concerns.

My client's comfort is my utmost concern, so please let me know if you any special needs or concerns.

To Get the Most out of your Treatment

Before Treatment:

It is best not to have acupuncture on an empty stomach, so it's a good idea to have a light meal before treatment. Also it's best to avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise both previous to and for some hours after treatment.

To facilitate your treatment, please wear comfortable, loose clothing that can be rolled up to expose your knees and your elbows.

Please do not brush or scrape your tongue before your treatment. Additionally, things like brightly or artificially colored foods or coffee can stain the tongue. The color and texture of the tongue coating provide meaningful diagnostic clues that I use when thinking about your treatment, so it's helpful to see it in its 'natural state'.

After Treatment:

Patients often report a sense of relaxation or euphoria after getting acupuncture. Occasionally patients feel a bit lightheaded. If this is the case, please rest awhile before you leave the office. As you sit quietly, the feeling will pass in short time.

Your body will be going through a re-balancing process for some period post treatment. So for several hours after acupuncture it is better to avoid extremes such as vigorous exercise, hot tubs/saunas, big meals or alcohol consumption. Avoiding these things will help your body let the treatment settle in most effectively.
